Monica Murillo is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Plano, Texas. She received a BA in Psychology of Organization and Development from the University of The incarnate Word and a Master’s of Science in Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University. After graduating she pursued her training at Momentous Institue a leading provider of therapeutic and educational services that reaches over 5000 kids and families in North Texas.
She is trained in psychotherapy and family systems with a license to diagnose a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, anxiety, individual psychological problems, and problems related to marital distress. She understands that an individual’s behaviour, emotional health, and well-being is strongly influenced by the context of her relationships so she strongly encourages addressing those concerns first in family or couple sessions.
She has established a trauma informed practice using a treatment framework that recognizes sexual assault/abuse as a traumatic event with potentially devastating lifelong effects on a person’s physical and emotional health. She is EMDR trained along with other modalities using evidenced-based treatments that address how the brain responds during a traumatic experience and the neurobiological changes that occur as a consequence of all types of trauma.
